Seeding Visionaries: The Work of A Studio in the Woods

November 29, 2022

“A Studio in the Woods filled my soul with inspiration and a determination to continue making art that speaks to the importance of preserving the natural world.” – Rising Resident Andrina Turenne

“This reminded me of my connection to the world on a larger scale” – Replenish Resident Quiana Lynell

“A necessary medicine”– Replenish Resident C. Gypsi Lewis

As beautifully expressed by some of our recent residents, there is no other place that cultivates creativity and nurtures new ideas quite like A Studio in the Woods. Since 2001, the Studio’s award-winning residency programs have directly supported more than 250 artists and scholars from the local New Orleans community, the nation, and the world – all made possible with the support of friends and supporters like you. Now more than ever, we need creatives who are able to ignite our imaginations, illuminate our challenges, and help dream our future into existence.

Imagine the impact you can have on our collective future by seeding these visionaries. In 2023 we will directly serve our region’s most innovative thinkers and makers by hosting nearly 50 residencies in an environment unlike any other. In addition, we will continue to foster opportunities for the broader community to experience the power of our arts and environmental initiatives. Your donation today will ensure these seeds are planted!

Please consider a gift of $50, $100, $250, $500, or $1,000 to the Studio in 2022. Your contribution to the Studio’s annual fund will support diverse cadres of artists, scholars and students; promote the creation of new works of art; support pioneering academic research; bolster our commitment to care, collaboration, equity and justice; as well as protect the beloved bottomland hardwood forest on the banks of the Mississippi River.

As New Orleans’ preeminent incubator for the powerful trifecta of new ideas, novel works of art and environmental preservation, there is no other organization in the region that is able to accomplish what the Studio does. That is why we are needed, and why we need your support today. Help us seed future visions.

With thanks,

Ylva Rouse, Board Chair
Ama Rogan, Managing Director

“The role of the artist is to have a radical imagination, to very bombastically imagine a different scenario for us… and actually build it for people to see, so that in real time they’re experiencing a work of art that has within it as a seed the possibilities for what the future might become.” – Adaptations Resident Nick Slie
