Words from the Woods: Poetry Reading at Latter Library 11/30

A Studio in the Woods and the Latter Branch of the New Orleans Public Library are proud to present a joint poetry reading between two poets who are former residents of the Studio. On November 30, 2011, from 6-8pm, Benjamin Morris and Valentine Pierce will read from their works and take questions from the audience. Doors open at 6pm with light refreshments, and a reception and book signing will follow the reading. The Latter Branch is located at 5120 St. Charles Avenue in New Orleans. A native of Mississippi, Benjamin Morris is a writer and researcher whose work – poetry, fiction, essays, and plays – appears in such places as The Oxford American, The Southern Quarterly, Horizon Review, and BBC Radio. Among other works, he is the author of a limited-edition letterpress poetry collection entitled Coronary, and a forthcoming collection entitled Ecotone, begun during his time as a resident at A Studio in the Woods.

Valentine Pierce is a performance poet, graphic designer and photographer, and author of the poetry collection Geometry of the Heart (Portals Press). Recent publications include Bayou Magazine and upcoming publications include the New Laurel Review. Most recently, Valentine was one of six spoken word artists who presented “Writing the Edge” at this year’s Fringe Fest.
