Alex Sorapuru’s early passion for creating was fostered while taking in the diverse architecture and color growing up in New Orleans. He began to explore painting during his years at LSU Architecture. Centered around abstract portraits, his work aims to engage the audience in self reflection and shared experiences. The combination of organic and constructed line work compliments the layers of color blocking in each piece.

“Leading up to my time at A Studio In The Woods there were a lot of nerves deriving from pressure I put on myself participating in my first artist residency. After the first night, it just became a place I could freely create. Being able to have the doors open while listening to the sounds of the woods was such a great experience. I did have plans to finish one piece and start another which I was able to accomplish. It was the largest piece I’ve been able to finish and it was great to be able to do it here. While a lot of my work is rooted in interpersonal interactions in the urban world, this space provided me the opportunity to step back and reflect in ways I couldn’t while at home.
