Danielle St. Julien is an Assistant Professor of History at Xavier University of Louisiana. Her research focuses on post-World War II U.S. politics, race, and political culture. Her current book project explores how and why 1970s political commentators used the nation’s growing Black middle class to debate the legacies of the 1960s social movements and federal social welfare programs.

She will use her time at A Studio in the Woods to research 1970s Black media and intellectual institutions’ role in shaping these national conversations about Black social and economic progress.
